Welcome and review of week

Injections... OUCH!!

Campers will learn the technique and strategies for delivering injections to patients with minimum discomfort. Anatomic landmarks will be reviewed. Campers will be seated for the demonstration and injection process and will dispose of supplies safely. We will review a patient scenario.

Infusion Therapy

Campers will learn the technique and strategies for delivering infusion therapy to patients using Alaris IV pumps and tubing. Campers will also administer pretend IV antibiotics to their manikin patient. We will review a patient scenario.

Help! I'm having trouble breathing!

Campers will review respiratory assessment and will practice on a partner. Campers will learn to administer pretend nebulized and inhaled medications and will teach their "patient" the use of the incentive spirometer and review the Asthma Action Plan.

I am "heart" sick

Campers will review cardiac assessment and will practice on a partner. The use of telemetry in the hospital setting will be reviewed as well as abnormal heart rhythms. Campers will administer pretend cardiac medications and teach their "patient" about the Cardiac Diet.

Let's Take Care of Simulated Patients

Campers will care for a team of simulated patients in small groups, acting as the nurse and delivering treatments and care, as well as completing patient teaching for each manikin patient. The episode of care will be followed by a Debriefing to allow all campers to reflect and integrate information.

Keep That Field Sterile

Campers will set up a sterile field using gloves, drapes and sterile instruments and will complete a dressing change on a manikin patient.

What's my "Sugar" Level?

Campers will learn how to perform point of care glucose testing and will be active in simulation for patient Millie Larsen who is experiencing a change in glucose.

Self-Care for Nurses

Nurses need to take care of themselves in order to care for others. Campers will learn self-care techniques and engage in a Mindfulness exercise with Associate Professor Mary Packard.

• Campers will enjoy a short, guided meditation for calming nerves and provide self-care.

Complications after Delivery

Campers will see a simulated baby delivery, the highlight for our school groups that visit the CCT. They will also learn the steps of newborn care after delivery. But mamma has a complication, and students will learn appropriate interventions to respond.

Save my Patient! He's Decompensating Quickly!!

Campers will receive report on a manikin patient who is decompensating including vital signs, other symptomology and which team members need to respond. Campers will perform CPR and other interventions on a manikin patient in an emergency. The episode of care will be followed by a Debriefing to allow all campers to reflect and integrate information.
